Sun and Rain

Everyone in Portland says November is the hardest month of the year because it's particularly dreary and a sudden and sharp contrast from the gorgeous summer.  But, luckily, we have had a few beautiful sunny days already this month, which we hear are rare.

The colors are at their peak now - our front yard is as beautiful as ever.

On the sunny days, Ollie and I have been outside as much as possible.  We recently purchased a Burley (a bike trailer) which he really enjoys thanks to the 2 big wheels on it. It's a fun way to get around this extremely bike friendly city.
Let's go, Bama!

When not in his Burley, Ollie is usually running around with his GoGos:

Since the majority of days now are rainy, we just toughen up, get on the right gear and head outside. A popular expression here is 'There's no such thing as bad weather, just bad gear' (:

So on Sunday, the 3 of us donned our rain gear and headed to the zoo.  Ollie didn't seem to mind the rain at all.

First stop - the bears...

...and about 2 dozen stops along the way for the puddles...

...and finally, Ollie's new favorite attraction: The safari truck.  Here he is on a safari with Dada to see the Lions.

Accompanied by real truck and lion noises:

In the afternoon, Ollie and I went to the indoor (and dry!) model train museum.  He's definitely going to be a train guy.

The best part of the weekend?  A warm fire, family dinner, and the Pack (:

Salt Lake City

Ollie, Chris, and I flew to Salt Lake City for Chris' first official job interview.  It is an exciting time as this means the end of training and the beginning of a settled life!  We stayed with Chris' parents (Maw-Maw and Paw-Paw)who had lots of fun activities planned for Ollie!

We visited the brand new Museum of Natural Curiosity, which was perfect for Ollie's little curious mind.  He loved the water tables (of course), balls, and just being able to 'go go' everywhere and anywhere he wanted.
Soaked at the water tables.  Good thing for smocks and galoshes!

Go Go Ollie!

We also visited the Aquarium, which is also a new and really beautiful space.  Ollie loved being surrounded by water.

On Friday, Ollie got to show off his Wisconsin roots as a little cow for Trick or Treating.

Saturday was a rainy day, so we went to the mall to ride the indoor train!  Here is cousin Haley and Ollie (who enjoyed the train ride much more than it looks like here...)

It was a short trip but lots of fun.  Thanks Maw Maw and Paw Paw!
